“Joshua, after walking for several minutes, sat and stared at the numerous stars. The sky twinkled with the thousands of pinpricks of light. They seemed infinite. Joshua felt small and insignificant against them. He felt the same way about leading the people into battle. Against such a large and powerful enemy, what was the Israelite army against Amalek? The larger nation would destroy them! How could Moses’ words come to pass? It was hopeless! Joshua felt panic rising in his chest.
Suddenly, something happened. A feeling, no, a presence was felt. Joshua snapped his head up. What was that? He felt struck. Was that God? He rapidly pulled himself back onto his knees. “Lord? Is that you?” Joshua whispered, piercing the night.
The comforting presence enveloped him. Joshua suddenly knew, without having to be told that the God of Israel was with him. The knot of fear loosened itself in his stomach as it was drowned out by the peace he quickly began to feel.
Joshua felt comforted. Yahweh had come to him. Joshua entered his tent once more. He curled up on his mat and fell asleep with the presence of God still in his heart.”
